Nevada's curve tops out in June at 157% of the annual average and bottoms in December at 42%, a 3.8-to-one spread with 48% of the year's light landing in four months. In hours: 9.7 a day at the peak, about 2.6 in December. July gives some of it back, running 146% against June's 157%, which is cloud cover arriving with the heat rather than the sun weakening.

Half the Nevada calendar sits above the annual average and half below: April through September are the six months that beat it, carrying 67% of the year's light. April is already worth about 7.4 hours a day, so the productive half of the year starts earlier than most people expect.

Bills here run above the national line. The average Nevada household used 930 kWh a month in 2024 against 863 nationally, 8% more, and covering that across a year takes 17 panels at Nevada's sun. Covering it from December sun alone would take 39, 2.3 times the array, which is the number that decides whether a battery plan is realistic.

Nevada is one of the states where a statewide number does the most damage: it has the 6th widest internal spread of the fifty. Across the 20 grid cells sampled here the south runs 24% sunnier than the northeast. Held against the 6.2-hour statewide figure that is roughly 6.9 hours at one end and 5.5 at the other, which is the difference between two quite different quotes. Nobody should size a Nevada roof off the state average without checking which end of the state it sits on.

Where these come from. The monthly shares are NASA POWER's ALLSKY_SFC_SW_DWN climatology (2001-2020), averaged over the 20 one-degree grid cells covering Nevada. POWER measures a horizontal surface, so its shape is reliable and its absolute level is not the same quantity as a tilted-array peak sun hour; the hours column is the shape applied to our statewide figure, not a second measurement of it. Two warnings on those dollar figures. They are displaced electricity and nothing else: no install cost, no incentive, no financing, and no assumption about how your utility settles a surplus, which is the single biggest unknown in the sum. And a state average hides the utility you are actually on; 15¢ is every Nevada residential customer averaged together, and neighbouring territories can differ by more than the gap between two states in the ranking.
